I’ve got a comment that starts with the line “American Jews make up only 2% of the population of America. Yet: 46% make over $100,000 per year,…” – I think you can imagine the rest.
Now, the tough call is do I post the comment w/out a response, post the comment w/a response, or do I simply trash it.
The argument for posting w/out comment is that I believe a blogger/reporter should put out everything they have, disclose everything, and only post what you believe in – to engage with second-guessers is to equivocate, and over time it makes you appear weak, and not authoritative.
The argument for posting w/a response is that I should share comments (in the vein of “give people enough rope”), but don’t let arguments and assertions you don’t agree with go unchallenged on your website – eventually, silence equals complicity.
The argument for dropping the comment entirely, well, I simply don’t agree with it AND it doesn’t relate to the topic of the original post. My post was on career advice for Rick Sanchez, his comment was a screed against zionism, with the assertion that “Rick Sanchez has nothing to apologize for.” tacked on ot make it appear “on topic.”
So your thoughts (about posting the comment, not about the “world zionist conspiracy to take over the world”)? It appears that many other sites have already posted this comment – take a look.
