In full campaign mode, Senator Harry Reid has promised to put the perennial DREAM Act up for an up or down vote during the up-coming so-called ‘Lame Duck’ session of congress, no matter the outcome of this election. On the surface, this looks like simple pandering to garner support from Latino voters in Nevada, but if you consider what is actual promise is, you realize he’s not tying support of the DREAM Act to his re-election, in fact, if he is to be believed, the results of the election are immaterial to consideration of the DREAM Act, so, in effect, Senator Harry Reid appears to be trying to suppress Latino votes!
Could it be that Senator Reid is learning that the Nevada Latino vote is breaking for his opponent, the grandmother of a Mexican-American grandchild, and not for the rich white guy who lives in the Ritz-Carlton in Washington D.C. And has repeatedly FAILED to bring the DREAM Act up for a vote?
Senator Reid recently tried to insert the DREAM Act and the repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in a defense bill – his efforts were blocked by Republicans and some Democrats that felt these issues were too important to be slipped through the Congress through procedural ploys.
