First Radio Broadcast, 1906

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ken @ 12:02 am

On this day in 1906, Reginald Fessenden made the first public voice-over-radio broadcast. Canadian inventor Fessenden was promoting his alternator-transmitter, trying to sell his patent rights to interested investors, including representatives from American Telephone & Telegraph.

For his demonstration broadcast, Fessenden read from Chapter 2 of the book of Luke, played “O Holy Night” on a violin as well as a phonograph record of Handel’s “Largo”.
